Farmer Training

SOSPPA conduct farmer and group trainings toward Good Agronomic Practices (GAP) such as pest & disease control, fertilizer use, clean seed, soil management, etc.

Value Addition

SOSPPA processes a variety of sweetpotato products including puree, bread, composite flours, Spaghetti. Other products also produced include cassava chips, etc.

Marketing

SOSPPA links farmers to local, regional, national, and export markets.

Sweetpoato Vines and Roots

SOSPPA is engaged in production of seed and roots of sweetpotato varieties which are rich in Vitamin A such as: Ejumula, Naspot 13, Naspot 8, Tanzania (Osukut), Narospot 1, among other improved varieties.

Finger millet, Legumes, and Cereals

SOSPPA, in partnership with NaSARRI are promoting and commercialising finger millet varieties such as; NARO Mill 2, NARO Mill 3, etc. Other crops includes Soya bean, Sorghum, Maize, Cowpea, Greengram

Cassava Seed and Roots

SOSPPA in partnership with Ministry of Agriculture of Uganda are engaged in seed production of and processing of cassava for commercial use. Varieties supported includes NAROCAS 1, NASSE 3, NASSE 14, etc.

Clean planting materials

Ensured the availability of clean sweetpotato planting materials throughout the year by training of seed multipliers capable of multiplying certified seed across the districts in Eastern Uganda. 
 

Value Addition

Gradually improved the quality and quantities of value-added products to suit the consumer acceptable taste.
 

Promotions

Promoted of improved technologies on the target crops in collaboration with development partners such as CIP, NARO, District Local Governments, and National & International NGOs.
 

Livelihood Improvement

Contributed towards improvement of community nutrition though access to Vitamin A rich products, improved livelihood including provision of direct and indirect employment: many farmers now able to educate their children and construct good houses.

Composite Flour rich in Vitamins and carbohydrates made out of Sweetpotato, Cassava, Sorghum, and Greengram: good for children and the elderly.

Cake made out of Orange-fleshed sweetpotato and rich in Vitamin A which is good for eyesight and body immunity.
