About Us

Soroti Sweetpotato Producers and Processors Association (SOSPPA) was founded in 2006; it evolved from Abuket Orange Fleshed Sweetpotato Producers and Processors Association (AOSPPA) that was founded in 2004 by six (6) farmer groups comprising of 25 (twenty-five) members. All of them were graduates of Integrated Crop Management (ICM), Farmer Field Schools (FFS), and adopters of the farmer field approach in Kyere Subcounty. Subsequently more groups joined from other Subcounties such as Kateta, Atirra, Katina, and Arapai from districts in Eastern Uganda.

Today SOSPPA has a total membership of 2,000 (two thousand) farmers of which 60% are female, 30% male and 10% youth. SOSPPA membership is continually growing as many farmers are seeing the benefits the association has brought to its members.

SOSPPA is engaged in activities to improve and increase farmers’ livelihood and incomes through seed multiplication and production in crops such as sweet potatoes, cassava, sorghum, finger millet beans, maize, farmer trainings on Good Agronomic Practices (GAP) to increase production, dissemination and promotional activities of nutrient sensitive foods crops for food security, climate change and adaptation as well as smart Agriculture, outreach programmes for com

Objectives

  • To promote production, consumption and marketing of nutrient Sensitive and food security crops including sweet potatoes, Beans, Sorghum, finger millet, cassava, Maize, Cowpea and Green gram
  • To promote extended ICM technologies and practices through liaising with government and other stakeholder organizations
